Today’s sentence in the trial of the Capital Gazette shooter is a testament to our nation’s commitment to protect journalists and serves as a reminder that assaults on a free press will not be tolerated. Our thoughts continue to be with the families, friends and colleagues of Gerald Fischman, Rob Hiaasen, John McNamara, Wendi Winters and Rebecca Smith, who lost their lives in the deadliest attack on journalism in U.S. history. At the Fallen Journalists Memorial Foundation, we are working steadfastly to create a permanent memorial in our nation’s capital to honor these fallen heroes and others killed while pursuing truth.
