In Betrayal, Jonathan Karl publishes excerpts from a speech that Liz Cheney had planned to deliver on January 6:
We are bound by a solemn oath, given before God, to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution. We cannot comply with that oath only when it is convenient politically. Our oath is not given to any specific president, and it does not bend or yield to popular sentiments, mob rule, or political threats … Congress does not have secret unwritten authority to overturn presidential elections, impose our will, contradict state law, or contradict the rulings of the courts. If we assert that we do, we are creating a tyranny of Congress.
