CMC alum Todd Achilles is running for the US Senate.  Laura Guido at the Idaho Capital Sun:

A former Boise Democratic legislator on Sunday stepped down from his role in the Statehouse to run for the U.S. Senate as an independent against longtime Idaho U.S. Sen. Jim Risch. Todd Achilles, who was appointed to fill a District 16 position and won the November 2024 election for the Idaho House, said he became an “unaffiliated voter” over the weekend because he is increasingly frustrated by both parties. “It begins with the fact that the two-party system is just fundamentally broken right now in the United States,” Achilles told the Idaho Capital Sun in an interview. He cited the increased federal debt, deficit and involvement in overseas conflicts as some of the reasons he did not want to run as a member of either of the two major parties.run again.

Achilles told the Capital Sun that he believed Idaho voters — who have not elected a non-Republican U.S. senator since Democrat Frank Church in 1974 — will be receptive to an independent candidate. “People are tired of a system that is more and more divisive,” he said.
