A November report from the National League of Cities (NLC), where I serve as chief executive officer, found that 81% of local public officials surveyed had experienced harassment, threats and violence, and 87% have noticed harassment, threats and violence increasing during their time in office…As a leader in seeking bipartisan solutions, NLC recommends a three-pronged approach to keeping local officials safe while still being accessible to their constituents — both online and offline. This includes securing physical safety, promoting mental health and well-being, and improving civil discourse.
