Dear CMC Community,

It is with deep sadness that we write to let you know of the passing of renowned scholar and beloved CMC professor Ward Elliott earlier today. On behalf of our community, we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Myrna and their sons William and Christopher.

Ward held the unique distinction of serving under all five CMC presidents during his more than 50 years as professor and emeritus professor at the College. Ward immersed himself in intellectual and cultural life on campus as an integral driver of the College’s development through the philosophy, politics, and economics (PPE) and government programs. Ward also wove our tight social fabric through his sing-alongs, hiking trips to Mt. Baldy, and Shakespeare events, all strengthening his bond with students and all of us. He also spent countless hours advising students on their theses and prepping Truman Scholar candidates. Ward made an indelible impact on our community. He will be dearly missed.

We will be sharing more information about Ward and his celebration of life in the coming weeks.

With deep sadness and respect.

Very best,

Hiram and Heather
